My Documents Folder Lost

DocsPDite relys upon My Documents to store its data.   Hence, if Windows does not currently know where this folder is installation will fail.

Here's the general sequence of events.

  • A user changes the default location of My Documents (simply called Documents in Vista and Windows 7) and something goes wrong with the process
  • The user then downloads and installs DocsPDite and hits the error dialog shown below

How to fix the issue.   This example uses Windows 7, but applies to Vista as well.   If using Windows XP, browse to support.microsoft.com and search for the answer

  • Open Windows Explorer
  • Right Click Documents
  • Choose Properties from the menu
  • Click the Restore Defaults button
  • DocsPDite will now install correctly.   No reboot is required.

Here are screen shots showing the sequence to correct the problem
